Bilan energetique d'une population naturelle de Crepidula fornicata dans le bassin de Marennes-Oleron ArchiMer

An energy budget has been evaluated for a natural population of Crepidula fornicata living at low water of spring tides in the oyster farming basin of Marennes-Oleron. This budget of production was estimated according to the position along the chain. The average biomass for an individual representative of the population was equivalent to 1.87 Kjoules, and the annual consumption C was 20.08 Kjoules/year. The energy budget expressed in percent of energy consummates was: C = Pg + Pr + Ps + R + F; 100 = 4.6 + 1.6 + 0.8 + 48 + 45. This budget is compared with literature data on other herbivorous gastropods and with those calculated for Crassostrea gigas in the same locality.

Capacité trophique du bassin de Marennes-Oléron : couplage d'un modèle de transport particulaire et d'un modèle de croissance de l'huître Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

The trophic relationship between a population of cultivated oysters and potential food was modeled in Marennes-Oleron Bay. Coupling the transport process of particulate matter with assimilation by a population of oysters was achieved through a box mode!. Transport between boxes was based on a mass conservation equation. Parameters were derived from volumes of the boxes, tidal movements and residual 110ws between boxes, and were computed from a numerical hydrodynamical model. Consumption, assimilation and respiration terms were put into an energetic budget equation which enabled simulation of growth. A result of the model was the variability of growth along an axis from North to South, which was related to the oysters' accumulated consumption of food....

Mathematical models for biological processes are presented as a set of tools for research, which ilave been created for specifie tasks impact studies, energy budget, test of hypothesis. Before using it, the mecanisms involved must be analysed, depending upon wether a whole ecosystem or one animal is studied (biological scale), physical conditions are taken into account (physical scale), with a predetermined scale for time. The no general method for analysis can be, as conditions of studies are so different, but sorne typical cases can show the approach of the modelizer and the recent developments of its tools.

In small size volumes (200 ml), the potential production appears to be higher when an artificial compound food of animal substances is used instead of a vegetal diet. Laboratory experiments on physiological parameters, have been performed, in order to obtain the Scope For Growth, of six species of marine bivalves. Between March 1988 and April 1989, intertidal and subtidal individuals, collected in the Bay of SAINT-BRIEUC, have been submitted to the analysis. Among them, LAEVICARDIUM CRASSUM, ACANTHOCARDIA ECHINATA, TAPES RHOMBOIDES and CORBULA GIBBA, were collected in the subtidal area, and CERASTODERMA EDULE, TELLINA TENUIS on intertidal flats. In the scope of the "Coastal ecology" thematics, the LCPC supervises a study which aims at understanding the causes and mechanisms of the summer mortality of C. Gigas. Different types of analysis conducted on the oyster (quality index, immunology, cell biology, etc.) enable the identification of a one month period preceding the acute mortality episode and during which the animals undergo a stress situation and become weaker. Les bouchots à Mytilus edulis Linnaeus dans l'écosystème estuarien du bassin de Marennes-Oléron (France): aspects biologique et bioénergétique ArchiMer

L'étude des moules de bouchots, Mytilus edulis L. a été réalisée pour caractériser les phénomènes biologiques et leur importance énergétique dans le bassin de Marennes-Oléron. Le suivi hydrobiologique a montré que la nourriture disponible pour les moules est plus abondante du printemps au début de l'été. Il a été possible de mettre en évidence une compétition spatiale extrêmement forte, au niveau intraspécïfique. Les moules cultivées à partir du transfert des naissains collectés sur cordes poussent plus rapidement que celles provenant d'une fixation directe du naissain sur les bouchots. At 15 degree C, different concentrations of Phaeodactylum tricornutum are given to Crassostrea gigas . Ingestion, filtration, respiration, ammonia excretion have been measured. Simulation of tides, residual flow and energy budget in the Gulf of California ArchiMer

With the application of a two-dimensional nonlinear hydrodynamical-numerical semi-implicit model, the principal tides M(2), S(2), K(2), N(2), K(1), P(1) and O(1) were studied. Energy budgets of the semi-diurnal M(2) and S(2) were calculated separately. The linear sum of these budgets was compared with the tidal energy budget obtained when these two tidal constituents interact. Since a quadratic form for the bottom friction was used, remarkable differences were found. The results show that in the area of the Colorado River delta, the dissipation of tidal energy is very strong. Intense tidal currents were observed in the same region and over the Salsipuedes Sill. Variabilité et bioénergétique de la reproduction chez l'huître creuse Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

The variability in reproductive cycle of Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, was evaluated in situ (Bay of Veys, BOV and Marennes-Oléron bay, MOB) and in hatchery culture conditions. Two trophic levels were tested over one year: high food level (HFL) and low food level (LFL). We observed that the phytoplanktonic concentration (chlorophyll a) was the principal factor that influenced gametogenesis intensity and duration. The oysters reared within a high trophic ration (BOV and HFL) shown a hyper-gonad development. However, the spawning efficiency was reduced and partial.
